With BEST into a better future
Our specialists from Assist investigate the provision of beds in the hospital
Every day, hospitals have to meet a considerable challenge: For every patient, a flawless bed must be ready and waiting. But it is not always possible to plan the availability of beds exactly. A patient who has been released has to stay longer because his relatives are late? And already, a major effort is required to find a replacement bed. If the provision of beds is organised more transparently, this can be an enormous help in day-to-day hospital life. BEST scan from Stiegelmeyer can help here.
BEST scan is offered free of charge by our Assist service. Our experts analyse all of the processes associated with the use of the bed in a hospital. On the very same day, they provide advice as to whether potential cost optimisations could be made or the workload of the staff could be reduced. This always results in individual solutions which are developed in collaboration with the persons responsible. Exactly which aspects are addressed by BEST scan? "One example is the location at which the beds are to be reprocessed," says Mario Ohl, After Sales Manager at Stiegelmeyer. "Many hospitals wonder whether they should reprocess their beds in a central area or locally in the patient rooms."
At first glance, the rooms may appear to be the best solution. The beds do not need to be transported across long distances, which saves time and money. But the specialists from Assist take a closer look and weigh up the pros and cons very carefully. Is it really logistically better for staff to walk through the entire building to reprocess the bed? Is it possible to properly clean and disinfect the beds in the rooms without being disturbed? Are corridors and lifts really as confined as people perceive them to be? "In the end, a tailor-made solution can be created that genuinely saves costs, reduces the workload of staff, improves hygiene and improves safety in association with the products," says Mario Ohl.
Another aspect of BEST scan is the inspection of the beds. Their condition should be inspected once a year. For hospitals, this means a considerable amount of administration work. "They have to know how many beds they own, where these are located at the moment and when they were last inspected," explains Mario Ohl. Some facilities had already developed their own system, while others were still looking for solutions. BEST scan can offer fresh insights here too. It may be worth investing in software – or Stiegelmeyer can offer the hospital an attractive package to take care of all matters regarding inspection and maintenance.
Mario Ohl has already travelled through Germany 100 times to carry out a BEST scan – "and 99 % percent of the customers were satisfied," he says. BEST allows hospitals to improve the safety and comfort of their patients and optimise the hospital's public image. This means that they are well equipped to meet the challenges of the future.
