As recently as May, it had looked as if the fair might not take place at all because of the Corona Regulation of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Then the numbers dropped, although it took a little longer in the district of Gütersloh. In the end, however, the ABK Open landed right on time in the valley of the Covid wave – and thus also enabled Stiegelmeyer to make its first live trade fair appearance since the beginning of the pandemic.

The ICU is one of the most challenging places to work in a hospital. Caring for and treating critically ill patients is as emotionally demanding as it is physically straining. Burdened with serious illnesses, patients in the ICU often need more attention than patients on regular wards. The nursing job has been complex and stressful before the Covid-19 pandemic started. However, since 2020, the challenges faced by ICU staff have increased exponentially.

Relief for nursing staff and for those in need of care is urgently needed – this has recently been made clearer than ever by the Covid-19 crisis. Shortly before the end of the legislative period, German Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn has now presented a nursing reform bill, which was passed by the Bundestag (German Parliament) on 11 June.

The EU Medical Devices Regulation (MDR) came into force on 26 May. All current products of the Stiegelmeyer-Group have already been MDR-compliant since May 2020. However, one subject about which we receive a lot of questions can only be implemented in the future: the Unique Device Identification (UDI) on the type plate.

Our Evario is a bed for all hospital wards - and has customised control elements. In addition to the LCD handset, there is a choice of control panels integrated into the Protega safety side on both sides of the bed. These panels have different control interfaces on the inside and outside: On the inside of the bed, they offer simple adjustment functions that the recumbent patient can operate effortlessly. On the outside, there are further options for the nursing staff. Lasse Radtke, product management trainee at Stiegelmeyer, explains step by step how the outside of the panels can be used in daily work.

After the logistics centre had already moved from Lage to Hiddenhausen last year, the administration followed in May. Burmeier is responsible for homecare in the Stiegelmeyer-Group – and this division is now stronger and more modern than ever before.

Hospital beds are expected to meet an extremely broad range of requirements. The tasks they are faced with in the various hospital units are so wide-ranging that you could be forgiven for thinking that the answer is to use a variety of special-purpose models. But wouldn’t it be easier and more user-friendly, as well as more costeffective, to have one model of bed that would meet every need?
