Opportunities for a self-determined life in old age

The MEDI-HAUS in Mühlheim-Kärlich introduces new opportunities for autonomy at home

Germany is rapidly getting older – the German Federal Statistical Office has calculated that by 2060 the proportion of over-60s could already exceed 38%. The number of people in employment is shrinking to the same extent. This demographic change is increasingly bringing the topic of age-appropriate living to the fore. Old people need suitable housing in which they can take care of themselves for as long as possible while continuing to participate in social life.

The MEDI-CENTER Mittelrhein in Koblenz, an all-round provider of rehabilitation equipment, homecare, and incontinence and care aids, has recognised this trend and, in cooperation with the MEDI-HAUS, has created a unique advisory basis for relatives and those in need of care in the Rhineland-Palatinate region. The MEDI-HAUS is a former show house that is completely age-appropriately equipped. Visitors will find a wide range of aids here in real-world conditions, for all rooms and living areas, covering an area of 200 m² plus garden: From height-adjustable kitchen furnishings and ergonomic cutlery to stair lifts and care beds.

“With this project, which has been in planning for quite some time, we have created a special form of information and advice for all those affected and also for the relatives of people in need of care,” says Björn Besse, Managing Director of MEDI-CENTER Mittelrhein GmbH. “In view of the current socio-political situation, our MEDI-CENTER house project is hitting the spot, not only at national and regional level. Living in old age and barrier-free solutions are already central themes for all of us, today.”

Burmeier is represented in the MEDI-HAUS with two particularly successful products: the Dali II 24 Volt and the Lippe IV bed insert. The Dali II is Germany’s best-selling care bed and achieves top marks in terms of comfort, safety and economy. The bed inserts from the Lippe range can easily be inserted into an existing bed frame and offer all the benefits of an electrically adjustable care bed. The residents can enjoy the best possible support without having to change their cherished environment – an important contribution to solving the issues of ageappropriate living.
