More and more people are caring for their parents or spouses at home. And many know the feeling of not being able to leave the person’s room without worrying. What if mother calls and no one hears? What if she tries to stand up alone and falls?
Many carers feel unsafe even going to the cellar or doing some quick shopping. Others use makeshift monitors, such as baby monitors, that transmit mum’s droning telly programme into every room. Burmeier now has a solution that will relieve carers of many of their worries. The new CCS – Care Communication System creates a secure connection between people in need of care and their families. Constant uncertainty can be a thing of the past and serenity can return to everyday life.
Telecommunications with people needing care or older people is often difficult. Operating a mobile phone or smartphone intimidates them. Even a landline phone can have too many buttons. And many people resist pressing the emergency button on the chain around their necks simply because they don’t want to create an emergency.
CCS solves this dilemma in an intelligent way. It installs a communication module (CCM) with only 2 buttons directly on the care bed. If the occupant presses the red button, a message is sent to the carer. If the green button is pressed, it asks more distant relatives or friends to call. If even this choice is too difficult, one button can be covered and the second covered with the photo of a friendly face, such as the daughter. Even if the occupant is no longer able to go anywhere, the CCM keeps carers informed. The module can be seamlessly connected to bed sensors – such as those for the Out-of-Bed-System. This allows the person responsible to know when the occupant leaves the bed or if he or she returns to it.
If the person in need of care has pressed a button, the module immediately contacts the assigned smartphone or tablet through a simple wireless connection. The only thing required is a standard SIM card with a small data volume. This is inserted in the bed module. The app uses a sound to tell the recipient of the signal to call the patient back. This person can then decide whether to call back or to forward the request to the next carer with just a flick of the finger. CCS allows a whole chain of people to be entered into it. For a return call, the module acts as a speaker phone on the care bed.
In addition to the CCM and the app, there is a 3rd building block, an internet portal. The carer can effortlessly manage the participants in the system and define many details of the notifications and the sensors as desired. Personal data is protected with state-of-the-art technology.
CCS is a big step forward because it uses the advantages of today's digital technology and removes any reservations people in need of care might have. Occupants and carers alike can create a network that gives everyone mutual respect and increases the well-being of each participant. At the same time, the system is open for future developments - because the sensors of modern care beds are quickly being expanded. In addition to the out-ofbed system, a wetness sensor is being developed that will improve hygiene. The care beds of tomorrow will be intelligently networked and CCS is an important key to this future.
