Did you know ... ?

Our beds and furniture are packed with practical details that make the work of care staff much easier. But in hectic everyday life, we don’t always have everything to hand and often make things more strenuous than necessary. In our “Did you know ...?” series, the Stiegelmeyer and Burmeier product managers introduce you to some of the most useful functions of our beds. This time, our product manager Lars Schröder explains the optimal castor settings for braking and moving using the Puro hospital bed as an example.

1. To securely brake the bed, use your foot to press one of the brake pedals down in the direction of the foot of the bed. Because of the central castor locking function, all castors are now braked.

2. To release the brakes, one of the brake pedals must be brought back into the horizontal position.

3. To securely steer the bed straight, we recommend activating the directional travel function. To do this, press down on any brake pedal in the direction of the head of the bed.

4. The directional travel is set in the bed configuration and can be detected by the coloured ring on the fastening. For beds with a 5th castor, it is always the one in the middle of the bed; for beds with 4 castors, the position can be freely defined.

5. After activating the directional travel, push the bed in the desired direction so that the castors engage correctly. If they engage counter to the travel direction, they will wobble and have to be released again by pressing the foot pedal into the horizontal position.  If there's a 5th castor, this is not necessary because it engages so exactly that no wobbling can occur.
