Digital solutions for effective relief in everyday life
Managing Director Ralf Wiedemann on the many advantages of our out-of-bed system
Digitalisation in hospitals and nursing homes is a great source of hope for alleviating work overload due to staff and funding shortages. In its Connectivity division, the Stiegelmeyer Group is working on solutions that offer users real added value. We spoke about this with our Managing Director Ralf Wiedemann.
Digital systems are supposed to make daily work easier, but still often trigger reservations. How do we ensure that our solutions really help?
The digital solutions of the Stiegelmeyer Group are always about supporting people in care and health – with more security, relief and help with documentation. That is why our team does not work in an ivory tower. Our Connectivity Lab in Herford is open to visitors who tell us their wishes and feedback. We go out into the facilities and conduct field tests to keep improving the practicality of our products.
An established assistance system in the nursing home sector is our out-of-bed system (OOB). What is new here?
We have significantly further developed our successful out-of-bed system. The optional OOB Smart on the Elvido care bed uses modern sensor technology to reliably determine whether a resident at risk of falling is getting up. If desired, it then immediately switches on the reading lamp or an underbed light. And it sends its notification to where it is actually perceived: to the house call system, to the caregiver's smartphone or to a dashboard on the duty room PC. In this way, the caregiver can react immediately in a risk situation. Especially in times of staff shortages, this considerably increases the protection of the residents. A big advantage is also the future-proofing. Already now, the system could report important status information to the dashboard – for example, whether the care bed is in the lowest position as desired and is correctly braked. We will expand this functionality bit by bit and thus further facilitate bed management and documentation.
Can you give an example on the topic of documentation?
The OOB Smart saves its notifications and thus provides helpful statistics on the resident's mobility. This leaves more time for the caregivers to spend with the residents, to have conversations and to do their actual work with less stress.
Successful digitalisation in the workplace often fails because everyone involved feels that even getting started is too complicated. What advantages do our solutions offer?
The technical start is very easy with us, because the houses do not require any costly infrastructure such as WLAN in every room. The "blue boxes" of our connected beds transmit only small amounts of data using the NarrowBand IoT radio standard. The control of the OOB system is also so intuitive with the help of an app or a separate handset that staff do not need extensive training. Users also don't need to worry about the data collected: It is securely managed in a cloud-based architecture. And of course: if there is a need for advice or training, Stiegelmeyer is there with its renowned service
